Program Description

The University of Chile is the oldest and most prestigious university in Chile. It is one of the best higher education institutions in Latin America and ranked among the top 500 in the world. Since its foundation in 1842, the University of Chile has been at the forefront of Chilean history, politics, economics, and social and cultural affairs. Its student population tops nearly 40,000. UT students have the opportunity to study in English and/or Spanish at the University of Chile’s Faculty of Economics and Business.

The Faculty of Economics and Business, or Facultad de Economía y Negocios (FEN), is one of Latin America’s leading Business Schools. It offers a first-class, internationally competitive education in Business Administration, Economics, Information Systems & Management Control, and Auditing and its research programs rank among the best in the region in areas like Marketing and Strategy, Statistics, Finance and Economics. FEN blends the best of new and old: a young, vibrant, innovative and outward-looking business school that’s embedded in a centuries-old tradition of academic excellence. Over 2,000 undergraduate students are registered in FEN programs at the University of Chile.

The City of Santiago

Santiago is the capital and biggest city in Chile, making it the cultural, political, and financial center of the country. It has experienced rapid development, growing up and out over the years from its urban center, and, as its economy expands, is becoming an emerging leader. Santiago is home to the regional headquarters of various multinational corporations and serves as a travel hub to many other cities in Latin America. While the entire country boasts vast diversity in both weather and geography, Santiago’s climate remains mild. Beyond the sprawling city, the Andes Mountains sit on the east and the Pacific Ocean flows on the west.

UT students have the opportunity to study abroad with FEN at the University of Chile for the fall or spring semester!

Program Dates

Academics

This program is a perfect fit for students majoring in Business or Language and World Business. The University of Chile allows students to choose from a variety of courses taught in English or Spanish. FEN offers over 200 courses in business every year. Students will take classes with both local and international students.

Most courses have a lecture twice a week and a supplemental tutorial or lab taught once every two weeks. A normal courseload is typically 4-5 courses. The academic credit through FEN follows the ECTS credit system. Two FEN credits equals 1 UT credit.

Program Housing

Students must arrange their own housing in Santiago. FEN does not have its own on-campus accommodations, but there are plenty of student housing options in the area. International students live in the city and travel to campus, just like the locals. FEN assists students in securing safe, affordable, and enjoyable housing before they arrive to Santiago. Students can choose from student apartments, short term rentals, or home stays.
